Some Guidance Information on Wedding Stationery

Wedding Invitations

As a rule , your requirement for wedding invitations will be half the number of guests invited to the reception after the wedding, remembering to allow within your numbers a few invitations over for mistakes and to keep for yourself. The examples overleaf show the more traditional ways of wording your invitation although you may word the invitation as you wish, providing the text can be contained on the one face of the card insert. It is possible to have the text in a foreign language if required, please call for advice on this.

Evening Invitations

Evening invitations are sent normally only to those guests invited to the evening reception only i.e. those guests invited to the reception after the wedding will not require an invitation to the evening reception as well, except in the event of particular dress code being specified for the evening; for instance, if the evening reception was to take the form of a ball and male guests were to be requested to wear formal evening attire. Your requirement should normally be half the number of additional people invited, possibly with an additional 10 ordered to cover invitations to single people.

Acceptance Cards

Acceptance cards are normally sent to those invited to the wedding reception only. The acceptance card envelopes can be personalised with the reply address.

Thank You Cards

Thank you cards are normally ordered in the same quantities as ordered for both sets of invitations as you will probably be sending out thank you cards for gifts received from guests attending both the day or evening receptions. They can be supplied blank with just your address or can contain a standard piece of text.

Order of Service

For guideline purposes, most of the brides that order through STL order the same number of order of service as wedding invitations, on the assumption that each couple/family will share a copy and that it will be those people invited to the reception that you would most like an order of service to be given to. There are other considerations though; will I have to supply order of services for the priest or choir, what if friends from the evening reception turn up at the church? We do not show a typical order of service layout as there really is no such thing. The modern service is very flexible and there are a number of elements that are at the priest’s discretion. That is why we always suggest to our brides to see their priest before attempting to put together their order of service. Ideally, the latest we would like to receive copy for an order of service is 6 to 8 weeks before the wedding.

Proofs

A proof can be ordered for any part of an order. We suggest that to cut out the cost and inconvenience of proofs, that you take your time in writing out your order and get your partner/parents to check your spellings and other details (in reality, proofing at order stage). Should any problem arise then from this point, then this will be the responsibility of the printer to correct.
